Hello Second Graders and Parents,
I am beyond excited for this school year! As a new teacher within St. Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Academy, I just want to say thank you for this opportunity and I look forward to many new experiences and collecting many memories with you all.
Since I am a new teacher, I wanted to take the time to introduce myself. I recently graduated as a fifth-year graduate student from St. John’s University School of Education. As part of a large Portuguese immigrant family I recently became the first person to graduate with not one but two college degree in this country. During my undergraduate studies I received a Bachelors Degree in Childhood Education with a concentration in Biology. During my graduate studies I received a Master Degree in Childhood Education in the area of Literacy. Some of my interests include the arts, specifically painting and crafting, science research, plant and animal studies, gardening, writing and traveling. During my college education, I was also a part of many leadership and philanthropic experiences in the area of education. It has been my lifelong dream to become an elementary teacher and it is my goal to apply my knowledge and skills to educate, assist and inspire students within SNT.
As an alumnus of SNT and having had the opportunity to work in an after school program and tutor the last two years within this school, I feel that I have gone full circle in my educational and professional career. I hope to utilize my past experiences and my knowledge to create a classroom space in which students feel understood, feel inspired to learn, and feel that they are in a safe, welcoming and productive environment. I want each and every student to reach their full potential as second graders. Through my professional experiences, I have developed communication, planning, classroom management and organizational skills, which will allow me to put my best foot forward as a new teacher and lead each and everyone of my students towards success. I hope to provide my students with learning experiences, assignments, activities, homework and projects involving content learning, skill development, creative and individual expression, feedback and moments that will expand their ever growing knowledge. My main goal for this year is to create this space and provide my students with opportunities that will stay with them throughout their educational journey. Learning should be fun and engaging, but it should also leave a lasting impression that can be used to build a better, brighter and successful future for each student.
I am eager to continue to serve this school, my students and their parents. If you ever need anything from me please feel free to reach out and I wish all of you an amazing school year.
Sincerely,
Mr. Peixoto
